Setting the agenda for cutting edge research
Farmers
in the Netherlands are actively involved in
setting the research
agenda for two leading research
institutions: The Wageningen
University and Research
centre (Wageningen UR) and the Louis Bolk
Institute (LBI).
Farmers often participate in the actual research
projects,
to improve product quality, sustainability and economic
viability of organic agriculture in general.
More
than 600 farmers, companies, research organisations
and the
government work together in Bioconnect, a network
which promotes
knowledge and policy development projects.
Wageningen
UR is one of the best agricultural universities
in the world, with
more than 130 years experience in agricultural
research. In recent
years considerable attention has also been
devoted to consumer
behaviour. This means that businesses
can be provided with useful
knowledge about a more effective
market approach.
The
Louis Bolk Institute (LBI) is a private research group that
was
established in 1976. LBI links social issues with
groundbreaking
research, bridging the gap between scientific
objectivity and
personal involvement.
Both
Wageningen UR and
the LBI take
part in global research
networks and make their findings available to
researchers and
farmers around the world.
